Our most notable accomplishments since our launch in December 2015:
We worked to eliminate Styrofoam plates, and introduce sustainable alternatives, during school lunches.
We implemented improved recycling and e-waste technologies in Stillwater High School hallways and classrooms.
We began recycling programs in Stillwater School District elementary schools.
We delivered environmental resolutions at both major political parties’ local and district caucuses during the 2016 Presidential campaign season
We added 125 signatures (and counting) to an ongoing petition to include more state subsidies for corporate sustainability efforts. *You can check out some petitions for sustainability on our "Support Us" page, under "More..."
We partnered with Sustainable Stillwater MN to expand efforts to the entire city of Stillwater; representative from YFSS was invited to serve on Steering Team.
What we are working on:
Our goal is to get Stillwater High School to switch from using plastic utensils at lunch to metal silverware! We need to raise money to buy magnets to put in the trash bins.
Working with local city councils to pass non-partisan environmental resolutions (Spring 2017)
Specifically, the Climate Inheritance Resolution, which addresses the need to protect future generations from impending environmental problems.
Presenting a YFSS booth during Sustainable Stillwater’s Earth Day event (selling plants - some of which will be planted as a service project later this year - and giving a presentation on the power of youth to enact change) - April 22, 2017
Writing grant proposals that would provide the high school with the necessary funding to purchase new metallic garbage bin lids, so that the lunch program may begin to transition from plastic, disposable silverware back to metallic, reusable silverware, without the risk of losing their investment - Spring 2017
